Sodajerker Songwriting Lab with Sacha Skarbek and Ben Parker

Calling all songwriters! The Sodajerker Songwriting Lab brings Grammy and Ivor Novello-winning songwriter Sacha Skarbek (Adele, James Blunt, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey) and acclaimed songwriter, producer and session musician Ben Parker (Sons of Town Hall) to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for a one-day songwriting workshop hosted by the award-winning Sodajerker podcast.

Overview

Sacha Skarbek is an Ivor Novello and Grammy-winning songwriter and producer whose co-writing credits include ‘You’re Beautiful’ (James Blunt) and ‘Wrecking Ball’ (Miley Cyrus). Ben Parker is a songwriter, producer and session musician with more than 25 years in the industry: one half of the transatlantic folk duo Sons of Town Hall, a million-selling author of music instruction books, and co-founder with Sacha of the Skarbek Songwriting Academy.

The morning opens with a live Sodajerker interview with Sacha and Ben to get you inspired: you’ll hear how they approach craft, collaboration and careers before you write a note. In the afternoon, you’ll move into small-group writing workshops in the Conservatoire’s studios, with Sacha and Ben offering guidance and feedback as the sessions unfold. The day closes with the groups sharing their work, a chance to pick up final feedback from the guests, and a wrap-up. The day is hosted by Simon Barber and Brian O’Connor from Sodajerker, the long-running podcast about the craft of songwriting. You’ll leave with new techniques, direct feedback on your work, and a clearer sense of how professional songwriters approach their craft and careers.
