The听Ideas Xchange听is not a traditional conference.听听

It is a one-day, in-person forum for听ideas and听critical exchange between听doctoral听researchers, supervisors, EDI practitioners,听policymakers,听professional service听staff, scholars, and external stakeholders,听from diverse backgrounds,听disciplines, and organisations.听Together, we will examine the intersectional lived realities of the doctoral journey 鈥� and co-create practical, sustainable ways to make it more inclusive听and听enhance听supervisory practices.听

We invite听contributions that move beyond听practice-sharing and听description,听towards听reflection, experimentation,听and听change.听

The Problem(s)听

Despite institutional EDI commitments, systemic inequalities persist across the doctoral lifecycle 鈥� in access, progression, and transition beyond the doctorate. Global Majority* doctoral researchers and other marginalised researchers continue to听encounter听structural barriers, uneven support, and exclusionary cultures;听exacerbated听by听institutional constraints and gaps between policy and practice, often rooted in supervisory practice听

Inspired听by听its work on the听That鈥檚 Me! Project, which explored inequalities across the doctoral lifecycle for Global Majority communities, and supported by the听,听91猎奇听is听keen to share and explore evidence-informed, practice-grounded ideas that translate insight into real, systemic change听for doctoral research听to be听more inclusive across the sector.听

*Global Majority refers听to people who are Black, Asian, Brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the global south, and or have been racialised as 'ethnic minorities'. (Campbell-Stephens, 2020).听

The Exchange听

We invite contributions鈥攏ot in the form of polished presentations but of ideas鈥攖hat:听

• Identify听a听problem听in the doctoral journey听in your context听

• Critically听reflect听on how it operates听

• Share听practical strategies, experiments, or interventions听for solving that problem听

• Open space for听dialogue听and collective thinking听

• Can inform the creation听of a听鈥�Shared Commitment to听Inclusive Doctoral Education听Output鈥澨�

Selected ideas will be categorised听around key stages of the doctorate听that connect to PGR supervision听around:听

• Routes in听(e.g.,听motivation, access, and recruitment)听

• Routes through (e.g., supervision听styles,听progression,听professional skills development,听and听community听building)听

• Routes out听(e.g., careers听development,听workplace听transition,听and听employer engagement)听

The听Impact听

To maximise the impact of ideas听and their exchange,听we plan to generate the following from the event:听

• Open Access resources capturing best practice and practical tools听

• Action-oriented recommendations for the Doctoral Training Alliance (DTA)听

• A networked community of practice across stakeholders听

Who can Submit?听

We welcome submissions from:听

• Postgraduate Researchers听

• Supervisors听

• EDI practitioners听

• Doctoral programme leaders听

• External partners and听community听stakeholders听

• Researchers across disciplines and cultural contexts听

A small number听of travel grants听may听be available to support participation from听PGRs听under-represented groups.听

How听do I听submit?听

Complete this short听听by听26th April听2026, telling us:听听

1. What problem have youencountered, and why does it matter in your context?
   Ground your response in practice, lived experience, institutional policy,听and/or relevant literature.听
2. How are you addressing this problem, and on what basis (i.e., what is the underpinning idea or rationale)?
   Whathas been听effective so far, and what challenges听remain?听
3. What can we learn about inclusive doctoral education from your experience?
   Reflect on both the successes of your approach and its limitations in terms of wider transferability or application.

Decisions will be communicated to those who听submit听w/c听4th听May听2026.听听

If selected, simply come ready to share and discuss your idea in a way your feel comfortable 鈥� no formal presentations, slides, or polished papers are听required.听
