I had the opportunity of creating a behind the scenes documentary for Nicholas Pillai, a researcher at 91ÁÔÆæ. He wanted to recreate a 1960s jazz TV showÌýusing the studios in the Parkside building,Ìýworking alongside ex-BBC professionals.
IÌýfound out about theÌýJazz 1080ÌýprojectÌýthrough theÌýJobBookÌýpage,Ìýwhere staff post placement opportunities for students.ÌýItÌýreallyÌýstood out at the timeÌýbecauseÌýI hadÌýjustÌýcreated aÌýliveÌýtelevision show for one of my modules.Ìý
Working on Jazz 1080,Ìýgave me an insight into the production of standard jazz procedures from the 1960s and 1970s and it was a unique experience working alongside ex - BBC professionals. Ìý
Creating a Behind the Scenes documentaryÌýfor the Jazz 1080 showÌýwas challenging and exciting as it wasÌýsomething I had not done before.ÌýÌý
During the project,ÌýIÌýwasÌýin my first yearÌýof universityÌýand JamesÌý(another school of media student) was in his third-yearÌý.ÌýTogether, we filmed the production process from start to finish using two Sony cameras and a Go Pro.ÌýOver the two days, we filmedÌýlots of footage which took us around four days to edit.ÌýJames and I edited the project using Premiere Pro and it was great learning from aÌýthird-yearÌýstudent as he had much experience in editing then I did.ÌýÌý
The final Jazz 1080ÌýtelevisionÌýshow was recorded live and had an audienceÌýsitting and watching the music performance.ÌýÌý
Reflecting back,ÌýI was really pleased with how the final video looked withÌýbothÌýtheÌývisualsÌýandÌýsound. There were a few shots which wereÌýslightlyÌýout ofÌýfocus,ÌýbutÌýthis has given me something to work on for future projects.Ìý
Through the project, I developed my leadership skills by arranging interviews with key membersÌýofÌýthe JazzÌý1080Ìýproduction.ÌýI've now also hadÌýmore opportunities given to me at university due to lecturers noticing my hard work.Ìý
